Donald Christopher Castillo, 44

Castillo

From SPC Castillo’s wife, Jenepher:

Donald Christopher Castillo was born in Houston, Texas on March 11, 1970. He joined the United States Army in 1987, specializing as a Combat Engineer, and excelled as a soldier. He completed basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri and was then stationed at Kelley Barracks in Darmstadt, Germany, assigned to the 547th Engineer Battalion. Upon returning stateside, Donnie was stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana, assigned to the 588th Engineer Battalion, when he was deployed to Iraq to serve during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. Thankfully, he returned home – at least physically – and received an Honorable discharge in the summer of 1991. During his time in the Army, he achieved rank of Specialist, and earned a National Defense Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, and Good Conduct Medal. Donnie took great pride in his service to the country he loved so dearly. He also established close friendships during his time in the Army that remain to this day.

Donnie was a lifelong motorcycle enthusiast. After his time with the Army, he eventually discovered a natural talent in being a technician. He developed a very successful career in the motorcycle industry, working on all types of motorcycles and ATV’s. He was a long time employee at the largest Harley Davidson dealership in Houston, and attained Master Technician status. Donnie took great pride in his work and career accomplishments, and had a true passion for his business.

Despite battling PTSD and alcoholism for more than two decades, Donnie was able to successfully establish himself in the industry he loved. However, everything else in his life felt the effects of his damaged soul. There were repeated attempts at sobriety and getting help for the demons that wouldn’t leave him alone. Sadly, none of it was enough for peace to find it’s way. Donnie gave up his fight on Aug. 18, 2014. He was 44 years old.

Donnie was a beloved son, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend. He was survived by the love of his life, his wife Jenepher Castillo, daughters Gina and Isabella, and son Daniel. He also was a proud stepdad to Brittany and Keilan.

Donnie was truly one of a kind. He was very intelligent and charismatic, with a quick wit and an amazing sense of humor. He always said that comedians love to make others laugh, because inside they were crying. This was so true for him, he was always the life of the party. He was the type of person who made friends wherever he went, and if he considered you a friend, it was for life. Few knew the depth of the pain he carried inside.

Donnie is an unforgettable soul, one that will be forever missed.
