Marine Sergeant Nicolas Vernon Rasmussen, of Rogersville, Tennessee, passed away September 1st, 2015.
Nick was born in New York City on September 29th, 1983. He lived in Ojai, California from 1984-1986 and in Knoxville, TN from 1986-1988 and his family moved to Rogersville, TN. Nick attended kindergarten and 1st grade at Rogersville City School. He was home-schooled for 2nd-4th grade and attended RCS again for 5th-8th grades. He graduated from Cherokee High School in 2001. During this time, he taught himself to play the bass guitar. He was a member of the band Greenevil and they were chosen to represent Hawkins County at the Tennessee Valley Fair. Nick received his certification in computer aided drafting (CAD) in 2003. He continued to play bass with several bands, including DeafMute and Ras-X.
Nick joined the United States Marine Corps in 2006, completed basic training at Parris Island, SC and assaultman training at Camp Pendleton and 29 Palms, California. That same year he married Faith Ann Jones of Rogersville, TN. Nick completed two tours of duty in Iraq starting in 2007 with the 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines, Lima Company. In 2010 he received training at Fort Belvoir, VA, and became a member of the 2nd Intelligence Battalion as a Geo-Spatial Intelligence Specialist, stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2014.
Nicolas is survived by his wife Faith Ann, step-son Kobe Jermaine Jones, daughters Destiny Collette and Neveah Elise, his grandfather Kenneth Edward Rasmussen of Glen Arbor, MI, his parents Glenn and Carol Rasmussen of Harrogate, TN and his sister Lillian of Stowe, VT. Nick also leaves behind numerous loving relatives, great aunts and uncles, aunts and uncles, 9 cousins, and many many good friends. He will be sorely missed.
